Broncos tab Chad Kelly as 2017’s ‘Mr. Irrelevant’
The Broncos might have just made the most relevant Mr. Irrelevant selection in NFL Draft history: Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly.
Kelly had an up-and-down collegiate career to say the least, but ended up throwing for 6,800 yards and 50 touchdowns over two seasons in Oxford.

The nephew of Hall of Fame gunslinger Jim Kelly suffered a torn ACL in November this past season, and his throwing session at Ole Miss pro day was cut short after he injured his wrist. He’s also had off-the-field troubles.
Still, given his intriguing set of tools, it’s easy to see why a team was willing to take a chance on his cheap jerseys.
“So I’ve been trying to say that if you take out the medical and the character, he’s a first- or second-round quarterback all day long,” NFL Draft analyst Mike Mayock said after Denver’s selection of Kelly. “If you take his two tapes against Alabama, and put them up against Deshaun Watson’s, they’re every bit as good.”
Kelly now joins a quarterback ensemble in the Mile High featuring fellow seventh-rounder Trevor Siemian and presumed quarterback of the future Paxton Lynch.
“We’re continuing to work at it,” Elway said, via wholesalenfljerseyslan.com. “I don’t see any problems with that. I look forward to being here with the Broncos for a long time.”

He added: “I don’t think there will be any doubt” a deal gets done before the season opener.
This is a strange situation because it’s so easy to get placed on the backburner. Elway had a grind of an offseason, not only adding a new head coach but by trying to rebuild the team’s woebegone offensive line.
According to The AP, the team first started approaching the NFL legend with extension proposals in October.
On one hand, Elway probably isn’t going anywhere. He is synonymous with the Broncos and is just a season removed from the franchise’s latest Super Bowl victory. On the other, he is an incredible asset for the franchise — a lure for high-profile free agents capable of getting better players below the market value. The Broncos should be eager to meet whatever expectations he has in a new deal.
The Bills also added receiver and return man Rashad Ross, most recently of the Washington Redskins, on Tuesday.
For his part, Bills coach Sean McDermott gave a positive assessment of the team’s meeting with Maclin.

“We had a nice visit,” McDermott told reporters Thursday, via the Bills’ official website. “Jeremy and I as well as some other members of our staff overlapped in Philadelphia for a couple of years there. Jeremy is a very good person and a good football player. That’s all I’m going to say at this point. I don’t want to get into the other parts of it.”
McDermott added that he talked to Chiefs coach Andy Reid about Maclin.
In Baltimore, a far more threadbare situation at wideout could motivate the Ravens to make a strong push. Maclin would reunite with former Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, who holds the same position with the Ravens.
Garafolo reported on Up to the Minute Live on Monday that he expects four or five teams to be in seriously in the hunt for Maclin. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday the Browns have expressed some interest in the veteran. Eagles coach Doug Pederson told reporters Thursday that Philly has no interest in signing Maclin “at this time.”
For other teams desperate to improve their wide receiver depth — our own Nick Shook has a nice primer here — this also serves as a warning shot to get in line. When a player this talented (and under 30) emerges on the market just before the start of mandatory minicamp, the process could move quickly.
Maclin caught 44 passes for 536 yards and two touchdowns over 12 games last season. In the two years prior, he hauled in 172 catches for 2,406 yards and 18 touchdowns.
